make normal make larger

The Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative gives Habitat affiliates the ability to help communities achieve aspirations of giving their neighborhoods a better quality of life. A Brush With Kindness is just one of these initiatives that allows neighborhoods to flourish.

"We don't just rebuild houses; we build neighborhoods."

A Brush with Kindness provides low-income and elderly families with the opportunity to partner with volunteers to restore the exteriors of their homes to their original condition—ensuring safe, decent, and affordable homes. Home repairs are led by trained crew leaders and completed by homeowners and volunteers, working together. Habitat partners with the homeowner to obtain supplies, and provides all of the labor necessary to get the work done as affordably as possible.

Some of the tasks include:

  • Priming and painting the house, trim, and porch;
  • Removing unwanted plants and weeds;
  • Planting new plants and shrubbery (see our partnership with Tree House Farm & Nursery);
  • Reattach loose siding;
  • Replace broken windows;
  • Fix or replace exterior and storm doors;
  • Conduct minor exterior electrical repairs.
